Aadhaar Set for a Digital Upgrade

Starting November 2025, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will introduce new Aadhaar rules designed to simplify life for over 143 crore cardholders. The move aims to make Aadhaar services faster, paperless, and more secure—aligning with the government’s Digital India vision.

With these changes, users can look forward to easier updates, improved verification, and better protection of their personal data.

Update Aadhaar Without Uploading Documents

One of the biggest upgrades is that the card holders can now update key details such as name, address, and date of birth online—without uploading any supporting documents.

The new system will automatically verify information by connecting to government databases like PAN, passport, driving licence, and ration cards. This means fewer steps and faster approval.

However, for biometric updates like fingerprints, iris scans, or photos, users must still visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra.

Revised Charges for Updates

From October 1, 2025, UIDAI has revised its service fees for updates.

• Demographic updates: ₹75 (previously ₹50)
• Biometric updates: ₹125 (previously ₹100)

UIDAI stated that the revised charges reflect new technology costs and aim to ensure smoother operations across Aadhaar centres.

Free Biometric Updates for Children

In a major relief for parents, UIDAI will offer free biometric updates for children aged 5 to 17 years between October 2025 and September 2026.

Nearly 60 million children will benefit from this move. UIDAI urged parents to complete these updates on time to ensure seamless access to education and welfare schemes linked with Aadhaar.

PAN-Aadhaar Linking Deadline Extended

If you haven’t linked your PAN with Aadhaar yet, there’s still time. The government has extended the final deadline to December 31, 2025.

Starting January 1, 2026, PAN cards that aren’t linked will become inoperative. This could affect income tax filing, Demat accounts, and financial transactions.

Safer and Simpler e-KYC Verification

UIDAI, along with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), is introducing Aadhaar e-KYC Setu and Offline KYC. These new systems will help banks and NBFCs verify customers without exposing full card numbers.

This step strengthens privacy and ensures quicker account openings while complying with India’s upcoming data protection standards.

Tighter Aadhaar Verification Standards

To prevent misuse, UIDAI is enforcing stricter Aadhaar verification norms. Only valid and active Aadhaar numbers can now be used for KYC.

If a card number is flagged as invalid or duplicated, related bank or investment activities will pause until the issue is resolved.

Aadhaar’s Next Chapter in Digital India

UIDAI says the changes reflect its vision of “Digital Trust, Simplified Access.”

From easier updates to better security, these reforms make Aadhaar more reliable and user-friendly. Starting November 2025, the card will play a bigger role in enabling a safe, inclusive, and fully digital identity ecosystem for every Indian.
