Google Dark Web Report Is Shutting Down

Google has confirmed it will discontinue its Dark Web Report feature in early 2026.
The shutdown begins on February 16, marking the end of a tool launched less than two years ago.

The feature was designed to monitor personal information on dark web forums. It alerted users when leaked data appeared in known breach databases. Despite its promise, Google says the tool failed to meet user expectations.

The dark web report scanned breach dumps for exposed personal data. This included email addresses, phone numbers, names, and Social Security numbers.

Users received alerts when Google detected their information in compromised databases. However, the reports often lacked specific guidance. As a result, users were left unsure how to respond.

Why Google Is Ending the Dark Web Report

Google cited feedback as the main reason for the shutdown. According to its support page, the tool “didn’t provide helpful next steps.”

Many users shared similar concerns online. Discussions highlighted confusion around affected accounts and actions required.

Most users ended up changing passwords blindly. That reduced the tool’s real-world usefulness. Google now wants to focus on clearer, action-driven security tools.

What Google Will Offer Instead

Google says it will continue tracking online threats, including the dark web. However, it will shift focus to existing security tools. These include Security Checkup for account protection reviews. Password Manager helps create and store unique passwords.

Password Checkup alerts users when saved passwords appear in breaches. These tools provide clearer and faster responses. Google believes this approach offers better protection.

Important Dates Users Should Know

Dark web scanning will stop on January 16, 2026. The feature will shut down completely on February 16, 2026. All related user data will be deleted from Google servers. No dark web monitoring data will remain after the deadline. Google has already notified affected users via email.

How Users Can Delete Their Data Manually

Users can delete their dark web monitoring profiles anytime. Go to “Results with your info” in your Google account. Select “Edit monitoring profile.” Scroll down and choose “Delete monitoring profile.” This ensures data removal before the official shutdown.
