NHAI simplifies FASTag ‘Know Your Vehicle’ process for faster verification

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has eased the ‘Know Your Vehicle’ (KYV) process for FASTag users. The goal is to speed up verification, reduce paperwork, and make the system more user-friendly across the country.

Only front photo needed now

NHAI has removed the need for side photos under the new guidelines. Now, users must only upload a clear front photo showing the number plate and FASTag. This change reduces extra steps and helps users finish the process quickly.

Moreover, the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways added a new feature that fetches vehicle details automatically. Once users enter their vehicle number, chassis number, or registered mobile number, the system pulls data from the Vahan database instantly. This automation eliminates manual entry errors and saves time.

Easier verification for users with multiple vehicles

Many vehicle owners manage more than one FASTag under the same mobile number. With this update, they can now select the specific vehicle they want to verify. As a result, the new process offers more flexibility and convenience for both individuals and transporters.

Existing users to enjoy uninterrupted service

The government confirmed that existing FASTags will stay active unless there are complaints of misuse or improper tag placement. Therefore, users will not face any sudden service interruptions.

Banks that issued FASTags will now send regular SMS reminders to customers who have yet to complete their KYV. If any user faces a technical problem while uploading photos or documents, the issuing bank must reach out directly to help complete the process before suspending the service.

For any concerns or difficulties, users can call the National Highway Helpline at 1033 to get real-time support.

Automatic verification through Vahan

The integration with Vahan has made verification simpler and faster. The system now pulls registration details automatically, ensuring that every FASTag links to the correct vehicle. Consequently, this reduces the chances of misuse and improves accuracy in toll operations.

Key highlights of the new KYV process

  • Users need to upload only a front photo of the vehicle and FASTag.
  • The system retrieves vehicle data automatically from the Vahan database.
  • Users with multiple vehicles under one mobile number can choose which one to verify.
  • Existing FASTags remain active unless there is a verified complaint.
  • A 24x7 National Highway Helpline (1033) offers customer support.

What FASTag and KYV mean for road users

FASTag uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to enable direct toll payments from a linked account. The tag, placed on the vehicle’s windscreen, allows drivers to cross toll plazas without stopping for cash.

The KYV process ensures that every FASTag links correctly to its vehicle and remains securely affixed. The verification stays valid for three years, after which users must complete a re-verification.

Through these steps, NHAI continues to make toll management simpler, faster, and more transparent. With fewer documents, easier verification, and real-time data checks, India’s digital highways are becoming smoother to navigate.t of NHAI’s larger effort to enhance digital compliance and make highway travel in India more efficient and transparent.
