Paytm Enables NRIs To Use UPI In India With International Mobile Numbers

Paytm has introduced a new feature that allows Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) to use international mobile numbers for UPI transactions in India. Through this update, users can log in directly to the Paytm app and link their NRE or NRO accounts.

As a result, NRIs can now make payments and transfer funds instantly while visiting India. They can also pay at shops, restaurants, and online platforms — all by simply scanning a UPI QR code.

Simpler Payments, No Currency Worries

With this move, Paytm has made cross-border transactions easier than ever. The update removes the need for international payment gateways or currency conversions. Therefore, users can send money instantly, avoiding delays and high forex charges.

Moreover, this feature ensures a seamless digital experience for NRIs, who can now use UPI like any local Indian user.

Available For NRIs Across 12 Countries

The service, powered by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), supports users living in Singapore, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Oman, Qatar, the USA, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the UK, France, and Malaysia.

At present, the rollout is in beta testing, but Paytm has confirmed that it will reach all eligible users in the coming days.

Strengthening Financial Connection With India

Through this initiative, Paytm aims to keep global Indians connected with India’s growing digital economy. Along with instant payments, users can also download UPI statements in PDF or Excel format.

Additionally, Paytm offers smart features like automatic spend classification, a combined view of all linked bank balances, and even a fun AI-based tool called Paytm Playback that generates rap songs from your recent transactions.

How To Get Started

Setting up the feature is quick and simple.
First, NRIs need to download the Paytm app and log in using their international number. Then, they must verify the number via SMS and link their NRE or NRO account.

Once activated, users can make UPI payments instantly — whether they are dining out, shopping, or paying bills in India. No local SIM card or additional verification is needed.
